kaoani
the term kaoani (顔アニ) comes from the japanese word for face (kao - 顔) + ani (short for animation) and literally means 'face animation'. they are cute, floating 3d faces which evolved from kaomoji, and exploded in popularity in the early 2000s. the first kaoani was made by rintaro-san. you can read about their origin story here (jp only)
